Dear Friends,

I am sorry that I haven't written to you sooner. I was hoping to have a message waiting for you when you returned from your holiday, but my arrival here in Crescent, Iowa was delayed by bad weather. The airport I was supposed to fly into in Omaha, Nebraska was closed for awhile due to the ice and snow that the midwestern United States received. I did not arrive in Crescent until Monday morning. Mrs. Schaeffer's class did not have school that day, but the secretary in the office, Mrs. Lemen, was at school to greet me and show me the room where I was to meet my new friends. Mrs. Schaeffer, the kindergarten teacher, was glad to see me. She had been worried about me making it here safely in the bad weather.

This morning I met my new 5 and 6 year old kindergarten friends. I have had such a busy day!! We started out the morning with calendar activities and a story. We heard a story about a little boy who told a lie to his mother and father. The lie kept growing and growing until finally the boy felt so bad that he told the truth. The kids here in Crescent sure know how important it is to tell the truth! They knew that the boy shouldn't have told a lie...telling the truth is always the right thing to do!!

Today in America is President's Day. The kindergartners learned about the first President of the United States. His name was George Washington. There is a story about George Washington that says he chopped down his father's cherry tree with his hatchet. When his father asked who cut down the tree, George Washington said, "I cannot tell a lie. I cut down the cherry tree." The kindergartners talked about the things that they have done that were wrong. They also shared whether they lied about what happened or told the truth. They came to the conclusion that even if you know you are going to get in trouble for something that it is better to tell the truth because if you lie you will get in even bigger trouble! The kindergartners and I also helped Mrs. Schaeffer look up George Washington on the internet so we could learn about his life and about him being president. What an interesting day!!

There was a student named Emily who had a birthday today. She got to bring a special snack of chocolate cookies and milk to share with her friends. I helped her pass them out to all of the other students. Then we sang "Happy Birthday" to her and Mrs. Schaeffer gave her 6 birthday hugs.

I have had such a busy day that I am very tired. I am going to rest a bit and I will send more news of my adventures in Crescent, Iowa another day.

I am learning so many new things in my travels, but I do miss you all terribly!

Cheers !

Max

Bonjour Max !

Bisous.

Les enfants de la classe d'Anna.

Hello Max !

We are very pleased to hear from you.

Was-it cold on the plane and was there much snow on the plane ?

Are-you staying in a town or in a countryside ? Is your school nice ?

Have-you met Eliette, Felicie's cousin ?

What's the name of your schoolfriends ?Do you go to school all the day and every day ?

We want to thank you for the stories you have told us.

Now, we are learning how to spell the alphabet. And what about you, do you know your alphabet ?

Have your school been to France, do the children know Paris, the Eiffet Tower and Asterix'attraction park ?

Has your luggage been found ?

We have been to the swimming pool, as we do every monday.

Love.

Anna's pupils.

Max sent us some photos
